CYCLING ON THE ISLAND
Porquerolles is the largest of the three "îles d'Or" situated in the gulf of Hyères.Four fifths of the land were purchased by the state in 1971; the island has been a classified site since 1988.
The management of the State Public Domain was entrusted to two complementary organisations, the Port-Cros National Park is in charge of the forests and the National Mediterranean Botanical Conservatory is responsible for the agricultural zones.
In wild and preserved natural surroundings, the island's 60 kms of marked rides offers visitors wonderful cycling.
To the north the pleasant sand beaches have gently sloping shores and exceptionally pure Caribbean coloured sea water.
To the south there are superb view points along the cliffs that dominate the gently shimmering sea.
Its temperate climate adds to each season's charm. In summer the cicadas mingle with the rich landscapes to remind you that you are in Provence, but also on a paradise island almost at the edge of the world.
